How to Begin

Give it a try…

Everyone can enjoy archery. A sport for all seasons and all people, it can be as simple or involved as you wish. Standards of competition and shooting distances vary to suit all ages and skill levels.

Once the basic skills of target archery are acquired, they can be extended to other types of archery. We provide all of the necessary equipment during supervised sessions, and expert advice is available when you are ready to purchase your own.

Archery has its roots in ancient times and continues today as a sport enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities. Archers can participate in competition, shoot as a social activity, or rediscover the skills of our ancient ancestors. Bows range from traditionally inspired reproductions of historical artefacts, to marvels of modern technology replete with pulleys, cams and magnifying scopes. Box Hill City Archers is a club dedicated to target archery and functions the whole year round and has been in existence since 1948. It is part of Archery Victoria and Archery Australia and operates under their guidelines.

We hold classes for novices interested a deeper experience or joining the sport. Further information can be found on our Beginners’ Course page. We run approximately ten of these per year.

While a Come & Try is a good way for those just wanting to dip their toes into the sport and have a bit of fun without commitment, our small club typically struggles to find the resources to run both Beginners Courses and Come & Try sessions.

If you are already a member of another Archery Australia member club and would like to participate in the Box Hill City Archers community, you are welcome to visit us as a guest. You can transfer your existing membership to us or join us as a shooting associate member. Read more under Membership.
